Edward "Eddie" Alan Weisblatt, born April 4, 1939, in Watertown, Wisconsin, passed peacefully June 22, 2026, with his children, Andrew and Michelle Weisblatt, by his side. In his final days, Eddie was visited by friends and extended family members who travelled from across the country to comfort and support him.
One of Eddie’s favorite sayings “If you will it, it is no dream” was descriptive of how he lived his life. Known for his adventurous spirit, he frequently pushed the boundaries of what seemed possible. As a young man, he participated in the Habonim movement, got a job on a tramp steamer, and eventually made his way to Kibbutz Kfar Blum in Israel. These experiences inspired a deep love of Israel that endured throughout his life. He returned from Israel to serve in the United States Army before pursuing an undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois. There he won a Woodrow Wilson fellowship and a National Science Foundation scholarship to attend Louisiana State University, where he earned his PhD in marine geology.
Eddie enjoyed a 40+ year career supporting the US space program. He worked in Mission Control, trained astronauts, and contributed to various space shuttle projects including the IMAX camera, the Hubble Telescope, and the International Space Station.
A true renaissance man, Eddie pursued numerous hobbies. He enjoyed Israeli dancing, travel, woodworking, and home renovation projects. He played guitar, ukelele, harmonica, and the recorder. He loved the outdoors, sailing, and scuba diving. These hobbies provided him with immense joy and fulfillment. Eddie always had a project, from installing a brick fireplace to completely remodeling the kitchen. Car repairs, plumbing, bricklaying, and concrete-- Eddie could do it all.
Most of all, Eddie was a man of great integrity, honesty, warmth, and humor. He was beloved by many, and his loss will be profound for the friends and family who were lucky to have known and loved him.
Eddie is preceded in death by his mother, Rose (née Magad), father Arnold, and sister, Darlene Mood. He is survived by his son, Andrew Weisblatt (and wife Jacquelyn), his daughter, Michelle Weisblatt, his wife, Rachel Weisblatt, his stepsons, Tahl Rozycki, Ari Rozycki (and partner Steve Herman), Dan Rozycki (and wife Cheri), and his beautiful grandchildren Ezra, Asher, and Alden. They will miss their Saba.
Eddie will be interred at Emanu El Memorial Park on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 11:00 am. We will have a nosh at Eddie’s favorite restaurant, Kenny and Ziggy’s, afterwards. Donations in honor of Eddie may be made to the Anti-Defamation League https://southwest.adl.org/ or the Jewish National Fund, https://www.jnf.org/.
