Lois Smolensky Brook, age 74, beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully with loving family by her side on Monday, April 13, 2015.  Lois was born on May 26, 1940 in Houston, Texas to Melva and I. Paul Smolensky.  She lived her entire life in Houston and was always proud to be a native Houstonian. She attended San Jacinto High School and graduated from Bellaire High School. Lois was a talented athlete, loyal and devoted friend, and an animal lover. She enjoyed doing animal therapy at TIRR, spending time with friends, and especially spending time with family including her three children and four grandsons.  Lois was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend who always stood up for her convictions and spoke her mind.Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Melva and I. Paul Smolensky, and grandparents, Hannah and Sol Davis and Sima and Lewis Smolensky. She is survived by her three children and their families; Adam Sol Brook and his wife Ana, grandsons Makai and Kalani; Jason Paul Brook and his wife Cheila; and Hannah Robin Brook and her husband Jeffrey Peskin, grandsons Myles and Benjamin; nephew Danny Smolensky and Mary York; Misty and Dax Smolensky and family; Donna and Dane Smolensky and family; Mikayla Smolensky; and numerous extended family members.The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to those caring for Lois, especially those caring for her during her extended illness: Dr. Liliana Diaz (of blessed memory); Dr. Roberto Lufschanowski; Dr. J. Pat Herlihy; Dr. William E. Fisher; the physicians of PCCS; the physicians, nurses and therapists from St. Luke’s Hospital 7 Cooley A and 7 ICU1; and the devoted, loving and caring Barbara Cartwright and Yonweh Smith.A graveside Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beth Yeshurun Allen Parkway cemetery, 3502 Allen Parkway, Houston, TX, 77019, with Rabbi Jack Segal officiating.In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to: The Rabbi Jack Segal Discretionary Fund at Congregation Beth Yeshurun; TIRR Memorial Hermann; and Caring Critters (caringcritters.org).Watch the video of the Funeral / Memorial Service here.
