Rose Sandler
November 30, 1929 ~ May 26, 2026
Rose Malekoff Sandler, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home, May 26, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, kindness, compassion, and service to others.
Rose was born and raised in Newark, NJ. She grew up in a small, two-bedroom apartment with her immigrant parents, Joseph and Jenny Malekoff, and three older brothers whom she adored, Isadore (Izzy), Jules, and Albert (Boomie). She was very proud of having trained as a nursing assistant. She maintained close lifelong friendship with the doctors she worked for.
She met her husband, Myron, while he was visiting New Jersey. After a short engagement, she moved to Houston where she and Myron were married and began their family. They raised three children, Barry, Shelley, and Jeffrey. Her home was remarkable for being a warm, welcoming and fun place for the kids and their buddies, along with her and Myron’s own close-knit circle of friends. A talented cook and baker, she was known for her delicious rugelach and mandelbrot. In addition to providing a loving home for her family and friends, she also volunteered as a driver for the Lighthouse for the Blind and making lunches for needy children at Congregation Emanu El.
Rose actively pursued other interests throughout her life. In the early 1970s, after riding in her husband’s airplane for years, she decided it would be safer if they were both licensed to fly the plane. Rose took flying lessons and earned her private pilot’s license. She delighted in taking friends and family for rides. She was an engaged member of an investment club, and she also took classes on politics at the Women’s Institute.
She lit up the room and made friends wherever she went. She was always ready to tell or hear a good joke. She was known by countless others as a trusted confidant.
Many thanks to Cheryl Mills and her dedicated team of caregivers for their care and support over the last several years.
Rose is survived by her children Barry Sandler (Sherry), Shelley Sandler, and Jeffrey Sandler (Abby Cohen), along with grandchildren Joey Sandler (Paula Delvaille), Jennifer Sandler (Jess Ambiee), Maya Sandler (Cory Mann), and Jesse Sandler (Kaitlynn Hong), and great-grandchildren Cole and Luna Sandler.
